How to find the best beaches on Phu Quoc Island

Phu Quoc island is known for its stunning beaches and tropical landscapes, making it the perfect place to relax for both holiday makers and travellers. The island is becoming increasingly popular amongst tourists so there are plenty hotels and resorts to choose from.

The best beaches on Phu Quoc

After seeing pictures of the island, we arrived expecting to see pristine white-sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters. However, this was not the case. In fact, it took us several days of exploring to find a beach where we were happy to spend all day. On a lot of the beaches, it was evident that there was a lack of waste management practices due to the accumulation of washed up debris. The only beaches which seem to have effective waste management practices and locals employed to clean up regularly are the ones which are part of a resort.

1. Long Beach

Long beach is located on the west-side of the island and is the most well known amongst tourists. The 20km of white sand, various water activities and sunset views make it the perfect place to spend the day. The fun doesn’t end after sunset either as there are plenty of restaurants and beachfront bars which come alive in the evening with live music and performances. The beach is perfect for swimming and snorkelling with activities such as boat tours and jet skiing also available.

2. Ong Lang Beach

This beach is hidden amongst the resorts making it a perfect tranquil escape for those seeking a peaceful setting. Whilst the beach looks private, you can access it through the bar and restaurant, ‘The Bay’. There is free bike parking next to it and a walkway which takes you through and onto the beach. The white-sands are kept clean and the clear blue waters make for a stunning beach, perfect for swimming. The only other water activity available is paddle boarding and there are only two restaurants on the beachfront, making it a much more peaceful environment.

3. Sunset Town Beach

Sunset Town only opened a year ago to the public and is still establishing itself. However, the beautiful town has a Mediterranean feel with its pastel-coloured buildings, cobbled streets and sunset views. It also has a pristine beach with sun beds, lockers, toilets and changing facilities, located in the centre of the picturesque town. There is a designated swimming area marked out, making it safe and perfect for families with kids. Despite being located in the centre of the town, the palm trees surrounding the beach make it feel separate and secluded. The proximity to accommodation and restaurants also makes it super convenient and a perfect beach to spend the day.
